Director, Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response
As Director for the Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response, Jim provides leadership and coordination of emergency preparedness, disaster response and business continuity for YNHHS acute care hospitals and the ambulatory/off-site treatment centers located throughout CT, NY, and RI. Jim has over forty-four years of experience in hospitals and health care and has served as the Director of Ambulatory Development and Emergency Services for the Bridgeport Hospital. Before relocating to Connecticut, Jim served as the Director, Prehospital Emergency Services for St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and worked in the Emergency Department of Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in NYC.
Jim’s attended the Harvard University Executive Leadership Program; Norwich University MPA program; and a Doctor of Health Sciences at A.T. Still University. He is a CT-DPH licensed paramedic; Certified Emergency Manager; Certified Business Continuity Planner; Fellow of the American College of Contingency Planners; and Diplomat of the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security.
Jim currently serves on the BoD for the CT DPH Mobile Field Hospital, as well as the NFPA Technical Committee on Health Care Emergency Management and Security. He recently completed a role on the National Quality Forum Healthcare System Readiness Committee. He also completed terms as the CFO for WADEM and as Co-Chairperson of the CTDPH Public Health Preparedness Advisory Committee. He served on the CEM Commission for the International Association of Emergency Managers and also completed terms on the FEMA National Advisory Council; the Department of Homeland Security Information Network Advisory Council; the Board of Directors and Past President of the American College of Contingency Planners; and Past President of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. Jim currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Business Continuity and Emergency Planning.
